Responsibilities
  • Support on flight mechanics, handling qualities and stability analyses, and relevant test activities

  • Technical expert for Flight Mechanics related decisions.

  • Support aircraft-level integration (from a Flight Mechanics perspective) by providing Flight

  • Mechanics expertise and tools to support the activities of other technical teams.

  • Support planning and execution of Flight Test program for handling qualities (following ADS-33E-PRF, MIL-STD-1797, MIL-F-8785).

  • Key role in the development and management of Flight Mechanics analysis and design requirements, from capture, through V&V and compliance for certification.

  • Work closely with the system safety team to ensure Flight Mechanics aspects are considered in aircraft-level safety assessments.

  • Develop best practices by combining knowledge from conventional aerospace and new approaches for eVTOL and electrified regional aircraft. Emphasis on the needs of a lean start-up culture with novel designs and unique operational characteristics.

Desirable
  • Flight Mechanics knowledge and experience for rotary wing or fixed wing. If no practical experience, then at least an understanding of theory and the challenges associated with the aircraft development (and major differences to the conventional fixed wing or rotary wing).

  • Demonstrated experience in flight mechanics, handling quality, and flight stability assessment of rotorcraft/aircraft by simulation and flight testing (ADS-33E-PRF, MIL-STD-1797, MIL-F-8785)

  • Knowledge in one-of Part/CS 23/25/27/29 and experience in developing means of compliance for requirements relating to Flight Characteristics.

  • Generated technical requirements for the Flight Mechanics discipline and took responsibility for managing them throughout the life cycle (capture, mature, validation, and verification). Good understanding of aircraft development processes (e.g. ARP4754).

  • Worked across multiple disciplines and have skill at harmonizing technical challenges across multiple teams. Inter-personal skills to manage internal and external stakeholders (including suppliers and regulators). Proactive attitude to ensure the optimum outcome for the program.

  • Adopted new technology in aerospace and developed novel aircraft configurations.

  • Developed techniques from blank sheets to aid aircraft design, integration, and testing.

Location

International / Remote working with the ability to travel to International Locations.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Business-level English and able to build positive relationships in a multilingual environment.

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in flight mechanics, stability, and control for air vehicles (preferably rotary wing).

  • Experience working across all aspects of aircraft Flight Mechanics analysis, across all phases of the aircraft life-cycle, from concept generation to certification and entry into service

  • Comfortable with analysis tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, FlightLab, Python, etc

  • Multidisciplinary understanding of flight physics (Aircraft performance, Propulsion Systems, Aerodynamics, Mass Properties)

  • Understanding of rotor blade aerodynamics and rotor dynamics, to a level that impacts Flight Mechanics analysis.

  • Understanding of aerodynamics of rotary-wing/fixed-wing aircraft and impact on Flight Mechanics requirements and analysis.

  • If no existing experience with rotary wing or fixed wing aircraft design, then the ability to quickly learn from team members about differences with conventional fixed/rotary wing aircraft.

  • Experience in planning and executing flight test programs for air vehicles.

Job Description

We are currently seeking a passionate and talented Flight Mechanics Engineer to join our Flight Sciences Team. The role is multi-disciplinary and applicants must have a passion for new technology whilst working in a lean environment to help achieve program objectives and help to our clients deliver a range of certified eVTOLs and electrified regional aircraft into the Advanced Air Mobility Eco-System.

The role requires knowledge across all aspects of Flight Mechanics (Flight Characteristics) analysis for

manned Air Mobility products, including :

  • Define, develop, and implement the environment, design requirements, models, and tools for Flight Mechanics analysis,

  • Perform 6 degree-of-freedom simulations to predict flight characteristics and handling qualities; evaluate flight dynamics and flight mechanics analysis for different aircraft types (rotary-wing and fixed-wing)

  • Preparation of Flight Test Plan and Certification Test Plan

  • Integration is a critical aspect of the role and will require interfacing with many disciplines, including Aerodynamics, Simulation, Flight Controls, Tests (rigs, ground, and flight), requirements management, and all activities associated with achieving certification.

The successful candidate will form a part of a small technical team and requires good interpersonal skills (in a multilingual environment), a strong work ethic, efficient self-management, and passion to learn new skills and help develop others.
